How Authors Make the reader fell a Certain way towards the Character

The author makes the reader feel as if the character was real, by adding a desired emotion that the author wants the reader to feel towards the character. He makes the character a bully, alone that hates everyone for no reason. This probably would cause hate towards the character. The author could also make a bully, but that tries to make friends without success. A lonely boy with no family would maybe make the reader feel sad for the character. The technique is not only to change the character´s personality, but to change the way he lives and the situation that he is in.
Regarding the elements of plot, the author may expose the character as a popular kid at school, nice, and that does well in school. Later on, he may show a situation that he got in or something that he did in the past which makes you hate the character. He may expose him well, happy, lucky and at the end, it turns out it was a scam, changing instantly the whole feelings toward the character.
Tone and mood are also used by the author. Tone is how the author´s attitude is towards the writing. Mood is the atmosphere given to the book with the author´s words. Like if he uses complex words, that aren’t very bright, the mood may not be very happy. But if the words are exciting and have a flow for the reader, then the mood is bright.
